Arnett Jr. Betas Riah and Jozie Latta traveled to Savannah, Georgia, June 10-14, for the National Beta Convention with their grandma, Lynda Latta, father and Arnett School Board Member, Riley Latta, and sister, Raylie, to submit their projects which they qualified in at the Oklahoma State Beta Convention this past March.

They were among 10,000 other Jr. Betas from across the nation who participated in competitions held for academics, STEM, speech, and visual arts. Students had to qualify at the state level to participate in competitions at the national level.

Riah Latta entered her Fiber Arts outfit in the Visual Arts expo. At the state level, she placed 1st and received Best of Show with her entry. Jozie Latta entered her Two-Dimensional Design, which was a sewn banner that received 1st place at the state level as well.

Riah and Jozie did not place in the Top 10 at the National level; however, the girls and their family had a lot of fun exploring the area and got many ideas for next year’s competitions.

Summer school began Tuesday, May 28, and ended Thursday, June 20, for Kindergarten-6th graders who wished to attend. Students received reinforcement in Reading, English, and Math. Instruction took place four days a week from 8:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M. for four weeks. Ms. Kuper, Mrs. Bryant, Mrs. Wheeler, Mrs. Ham, and Mrs. Broyles each taught a rotation of summer classes. Many classroom lessons were paired with hands-on activities to encourage the students to enhance critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity. At the end of the four weeks, those students who attended 80% of the time were rewarded with a morning of swimming in the Arnett indoor pool, pizza for lunch, and a treat of Hawaiian Ice Sno Cones provided by Landree Parsons.
