Students cheering on the Robocats

Arnett High School’s Beta Club will hold its annual induction ceremony on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. in the school auditorium. This year, three new members will join the ranks: Riah Latta, Jasmine Smith, and Brooklyn Vincent. The induction will be led by Beta Club President Landree Parsons, with Vice-President Landry Bayless presenting certificates, membership cards, and pins to the new inductees.

Adding to the celebration, guest speaker Morgan Carroll Davis, a 2018 graduate and former Arnett Beta Club Secretary, will address the students. Now an esthetician in Louisiana, Davis will share insights on her journey since high school and the importance of academic and personal achievement. Sophomore Eli Coykendall will provide entertainment.

"We are proud to recognize these students for their dedication to academic excellence," said Mrs. Burcham. "They have worked hard to earn this distinction, and we’re thrilled to welcome them to the club."

In other school news, Arnett High's Student Council (STUCO) hosted a mock election on November 5. Students experienced the excitement of voting as they cast their ballots for the candidate they felt best suited for the presidential office. STUCO members organized a polling station in the school, and the election resulted in a mock victory for Donald Trump over Kamala Harris, with a final count of 132-22. Following the election, classes engaged in discussions about the Electoral College and its role in the U.S. election system. Many students were inspired to stay up late to watch the real-time election results.

The Arnett High School Robotics Team, known as the Robocats, achieved remarkable success at the Heartland BEST Robotics Competition last weekend, hosted by Northwestern Oklahoma State University. This year’s theme, “Low G,” challenged teams to design robotics inspired by NASA’s Artemis mission, with a focus on returning to the Moon and exploring sustainable, long-term habitation.

The Robocats embraced the challenge, creating a company called “Astrocats” that aligned with the lunar theme. The team submitted their Engineering Notebook on Monday and traveled to Alva on Friday to present their Marketing Exhibit. In a series of formal sales presentations and interviews, the Robocats showcased their innovative approach to the competition’s objectives. Later that evening, the team’s seven robot drivers practiced on the playing field in Burlington, which graciously allowed them access for training.

On Saturday, the entire team returned to Alva for Game Day. After some strategic adjustments and wheel alignments following a challenging start in the semi-finals, their robot, affectionately named “Dwayne ‘The Moon Rock’ Johnson,” powered through to the finals, ultimately securing second place in the Robot Competition. This outstanding performance qualified the Robocats for the Denver Regional BEST competition in Colorado Springs, set for December 7-8.

The Robocats also took home third place in the overall BEST competition and were awarded the “Most Elegant Robot” distinction, recognizing the exceptional design and functionality of their robot. Adding to the team’s list of accolades, Mrs. Coleman, their dedicated coach, was honored as Heartland BEST Coach of the Year.

Looking ahead, the Robocats will be actively raising funds to cover travel expenses for the Denver Regional competition. Community members can look forward to seeing “Dwayne” in action and supporting this talented team in their journey to the regionals.

Congratulations to the Robocats and Coach Coleman for their hard work and dedication—Arnett is proud to see them representing our community on a larger stage!

Congratulations to Arnett High School seniors Harley Shoaf, Cadie McCracken, and Landry Bayless for being named to the 2024 Fastpitch Softball All-State team. This prestigious recognition highlights their exceptional skills and dedication to the sport. Their achievements have brought pride to the Arnett community and serve as an inspiration to aspiring athletes. We commend them for their hard work and wish them continued success in their future endeavors.
