Every morning at Arnett Elementary, a group of 4th through 6th-grade students gathers at the front of the school to perform an important tradition: raising the American and Oklahoma flags. This is a new task for the students and is both a symbol of respect and a lesson in responsibility. Each week, a new group of 3 students is chosen to take on the task, ensuring everyone has a chance to participate. This ritual is an opportunity for the students to learn the importance of civic duty. Students also learned the proper techniques for handling and folding the flags. For these young citizens, raising the flags is more than a chore—it’s a daily reminder of the pride they take in their school and community.

Using paper, markers, and their imaginations, the students created their own balloon designs. They sketched everything from turkeys and pumpkins to superheroes and fantastical creatures. This activity not only taught students about a cherished holiday tradition but also encouraged them to dream big—just like the massive balloons that float through the streets of Manhattan each year!
