The weekend of December 7-8 was quite busy for the Arnett Robotics Team. The Robocats & Dwayne “The Moon Rock Johnson 2.0” greeted the Elementary students as they arrived at school on Friday morning. Then, after ballgames Friday night, they departed AHS at 4:00 am Saturday morning to head to Colorado for the BEST (Boosting Engineering Science & Technology) Robotics competition. After a quick practice session on the playing fields and a student mixer, they got to go hiking at the “Garden of the Gods”. They were also introduced to WhirlyBall which combines lacrosse, basketball, hockey and bumper cars into a pretty fun game. Bright and early Sunday morning the robocats had to get serious about competition. After six preliminary rounds, they came in 11th place. They did not qualify for the top 8 semi-final round, but made a pretty big splash for a little NW OK town.
The Robocats would like to express their deepest gratitude to the community members who donated money at their bake sale and their sponsors Farmers & Merchants Bank and Day County Services. Without all the support, the trip would not have been possible. We are blessed by this wonderful community. Go Robocats!!

The top 28 teams from 8 Hubs throughout Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and South Dakota competed in the Denver Regional BEST Robotics competition last weekend in Colorado Springs. Teams went head to head driving their robots on playing fields designed to resemble a lunar surface. The Arnett Robotics team (competing in the upper green quadrant) qualified for the event at NWOSU’s HUB competition last month.
Unnamed student driver and Spotter Nicolas Sant’Anna share a high five after completing Arnett’s highest scoring round in the competition. The duo put up 395 points. The Robocats finished the competition averaging 311 points per round placing them 11th out of 28 teams.

This week’s Farmer’s and Merchant’s Bank “Banking on a Wildcat” goes to Jozie Latta. Jozie was nominated by the teachers and they had this to say about her: “Jozie is a tough young lady. Watching her take on any and every task with an “I can” attitude is extremely encouraging. She is so respectful to the teachers and always says “Yes sir” or “Yes ma’am”. Recently she was caught giving her reward for making a 00 on a test to another student who didn’t get an award. That’s the Wildcat mentality we try to get our students to catch on to and it is so awesome to see!” Congratulations Jozie!
The Leedey Bison came to Arnett on Tuesday, December 17, for a full night of basketball. The 3-4th graders kicked off the evening with victories for both the Arnett girls and boys teams. In high school action, the girls played an outstanding game and came away with a 10 point victory with a score of 53-43. The boys had a very slow start but came out in the second half and made it a highly competitive game. They ended up losing by 6 points, but they played with lots of heart. We are always so proud of our Wildcats and Lady Wildcats!
