Arnett students kicked off state testing this past week as part of Oklahoma’s annual assessment schedule. Students in grades 3 through 8 began the Oklahoma State Testing Program (OSTP), which includes English language arts (ELA) and math. Additionally, fifth and eighth graders face a science test, and an ELA writing component is included.
High school juniors take the College and Career Readiness Assessment, the ACT is part of the CCRA, a two-part exam designed to measure readiness for life after graduation. Testing will continue in the coming days as students work to meet state academic standards.
While students were taking state tests in Arnett, Mrs. Miller was on her way to the zoo with her kindergarten class for their annual field trip. They had a perfect day and got to see lots of animals!
The joy of Easter was alive and well at Arnett Elementary this week as Pre-K through 4th grade students took part in egg hunts and classroom parties. The 5th and 6th graders were challenged with hiding the eggs for the students to hunt and then they got to enjoy their classroom parties.
Arnett hosted their softball and baseball tournaments this week. Softball teams from Arnett, Mooreland, Arapaho, Cheyenne, Mt. View, Okarche, Leedey, Merritt, Canute, Seiling, Hammon, and Vici participated. Arapaho left with a first-place finish, followed by Leedey. The Arnett Lady Cats finished in 3rd place. The baseball tournament included teams from Hooker, Erick, Balko-Forgan, Arnett, Laverne, Mooreland, Sayre, and Fargo-Gage-Fort Supply. Due to weather the baseball tournament ended early.
Seniors Harley Shoaf and Cadie McCracken had another successful golf tournament. They made the drive to compete in the Elgin-Western Open played at the Lake Hefner Golf Course. Shoaf made an eagle on her second to last hole and ended her round with an impressive score of 80, earning herself a second-place finish. McCracken shot a 113 and helped the Arnet/Thomas-Fay-Cuter team who finished in 5th place.
This week's Farmer's and Merchant's Bank "Banking on a Wildcat" goes to senior Maggi Guadarrama. Maggi's teachers had this to say about her: "Maggi is a student that is quiet but is one that is very loyal. It has been fun watching her be active in cheer and working with the little kids over the past couple years. This year, watching her grow into the young woman she is becoming has been fun as she makes her future decisions. Arnett is very happy to have Maggi and can't wait to see what she does in her future!" Congratulations, Maggi!
