This past week started with a bang! Monday our school celebrated Valentine's Day with sweet treats, balloons, and Valentine's parties! Each year the Arnett Beta Club makes valentines cookies and sells balloons for a fundraiser. This year the Arnett Beta Club baked and decorated 478 Valentine’s cookies over the weekend and blew up 310 balloons that were delivered Monday morning. The Beta kids worked hard all weekend preparing the cookies and balloons. Saturday they rolled dough and baked the cookies. Then, Sunday the kids showed back up to the school to decorate the cookies and blow up balloons. Miss Holloway and her students do an excellent job with this every year!

Monday evening the 4-H and FFA kids held a Valentine's banquet instead of their local show. At the banquet, there was a slideshow to show off the kids' projects from this year, followed by the annual local sale.  The kids did a great job helping serve food, drinks, and clean up when finished.

Along with the banquet, this past week was National FFA week. To promote FFA, the FFA students set up a mini petting zoo for the elementary kids to visit, visited classrooms as guest readers, held an agricultural coloring contest, and spoke to the 5th-7th grade classes about the different opportunities FFA has to offer. The elementary students learned a lot and enjoyed it all!

Due to snow and ice, the basketball games were pushed a day, so Friday kicked off the regional basketball tournament for our Lady Wildcats. They traveled to Fairview to play Kremlin-Hillsdale. The girls played hard and pulled out a victory advancing them to the Regional finals versus Okeene which will be played Monday night at 6:30 in Fairview. If they win or lose, they will advance to the Area tournament in Woodward.

Another exciting thing in Arnett Public Schools this past week was that the 7th & 8th Grade English students from Arnett and Shattuck recently participated in the Delta Kappa Gamma essay contest. The essay topic was “Explain how kindness could bring unity

in our world today”.

The 7th Grade Winners were:

1st Place–Bristen Robertson, Arnett

2nd Place-Nicolas Sant’Anna, Arnett

3rd Place-Kevlee Kelln, Shattuck

Honorable Mention-John Campbell, Arnett

The 8th Grade Winners were:

1st Place-Tayzlee Bullard, Shattuck

2nd Place-MaKenzi Hamil, Arnett

3rd Place-Tayler Kraft, Shattuck

Honorable Mention-Curtis Schilling, Shattuck

The essay winners attended a luncheon where they read their essays and received a certificate and prize money.  Bristen Robertson’s and Tayzlee Bullard’s 1st Place essays will be sent to the Oklahoma State organization’s competition to be judged in Oklahoma City.

To finish the week off, our FFA and 4-H kids were preparing their projects for the District Livestock Show in Woodward. The show kicked off Saturday with the Ag Mechanics portion, followed by the barrow show on Sunday. Several kids are showing this year so if you're in the Woodward area, stop in and see them!
